Women are often unsung heroes.
Not today. And never on flowerpowerwithjill.
We were thinking of how to celebrate International Women’s Day. This painting by Marjorie Strider (1931-2014) that I saw at Art Basel Miami Beach fit the bill.
Strider was an American painter, sculptor and performance artist best known for her three-dimensional paintings. Along with Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Tom Wesselmann, she was among the first wave of New York Pop artists. She was also included in “The First International Girlie Show” at the Pace Gallery in 1964.
We love her painting because it oozes a feminist attitude and also has such a fun graphic image of a flower. It is titled, appropriately, Red Rose.
